What’s On: Honeycomb, Xperia Play, 7

Let’s start the week with a round up of what has been happening lately: time for a new What’s On, and for this week’s feature we will delight your geek side with a tech news special.

There’s been a lot of anticipation lately around the release of the upcoming version of Android, which is called Honeycomb, also known as Android 3.0, which has been designed for the large screen devices that will be rolling massively this year.
It started back a month ago at the CES with the release of this introductory video for the new version of Google’s OS.

Then last week, a full presentation of Honeycomb let us learn about the key features of this version. We won’t go into too many details and we have added the full video below, but here are the main additions: optimized interface, handy notification bar, customizable home screen, improved keyboard, better browsing, visual multitasking…

A lot of rumours where circulating around Sony’s new handset that would bring a phone and a console together, therefore named the Playstation phone, to finally reveal that it will be named the Xperia Play. Apart from its name there’s still much to unveil and this will be happening really soon since the official announcement is scheduled for Feb 13th at the MWC in Barcelona.

We will let you know more in a coming post about this new device and what you’ll be able to do with it.

And the number of the week is 7.
7 lives, 7 sins or 7 dwarfs? No, 7 years of social connection, Facebook has turned 7.

Which is not very long when you look at it, and especially if you look at it with the perspective of what it has accomplished.  With now almost 600 millions members that has been 7 real busy years for the Facebook team!

What’s On #7: The One Ronnie, Wikipedia, Stickers And More.

We hadn’t had a What’s On in a while on the blog, so to start 2011 with a column that you’ve all enjoyed, here’s the What’s On number 7!
As a reminder for those who are discovering this feature, What’s On is where we share all the fun, interesting, odd things we have seen lately on the web.

Fruit talk
As more and more smartphones hit the shelves, and debates on wherever you are a Droid or iOS bro rage stronger each time there’s a new announcement, we had a good laugh at all this when we watched an episode of BBC One’s The One Ronnie, entitled “My Blackberry is not working!”:

Graphic Pressure
We stumbled over at Gizmodo on these stickers you can fix on top of your light switch to remind of the consequences of letting the light on:

We can’t say no to a clever idea which is on top of that well designed!

Happy Birthday!
Wikipedia is celebrating is 10th anniversary, and when we look at it, we are pretty amazed on how much Wikipedia has changed the way we search for references and how we discover new stuff. As the saying went, “Think before you speak”, it is now “Wikipedia before you speak” :)
To celebrate this anniversary they have release a nifty production: The State of Wikipedia, a video on the history of the organization and its most striking stats.

And if you want to know how favourite page on Wikipedia, here it is: the list of unusual articles :D

Thirsty?
We’ve recently read about the new cup that Starbucks is going to roll for their iced drinks,  and it’s their biggest size yet, with a mesmerizing 916mL!!! The cup is called the Tentra and if you look at the below graphic you’ll see that it has just a little over of the adult stomach capacity. The urge for a cold drink will be shortly followed by another one of an even bigger necessity ;-)

That’s it for this week’s What’s On, hope you enjoyed it!
Have a great weekend.

What’s On #6- Skateboarding & Facebook life

What’s On is our weekly article on everything we found interesting or just made us laugh in the past few days. For this sixth edition we have a good mix of geek and “wow” stuff. It’s probably link to summer coming and longer days outside that we have been spending more time looking at skateboard and surf videos.

Asher Bradshaw, 6 year old skateboarder!

Every now and then we stumble upon a video clip of the next so-called Tony Hawk, and usually it is good indeed. But this time, this kid is so good this is in-sa-ne! Asher as amazing skills for 6yo kid.  Check it out:

Talking about skateboarding, we are big fans here at Gameloft, and also of good photography, so when the two meet it cannot not be in the What’s On.  We’ve just discovered the online portfolio of Hugh Holland and notably one of his series called “Locals Only”. Set in the years 75, 76 in California these shots are full of those glory early days of skateboarding.

Have a look at the full series on Hugh Holland’s website.

A life on Facebook
In our last What’s On we had pick the video “Meet Jordan” about the impact in our daily lifes of the multiple channels through which we are connected. In the last days another video has been going around the web on a similar subject: what would a life of someone look like if looked only through Facebook. Enough said, have a look for yourself:

Hope you enjoyed this edition :)

What’s On #5: Phone types, Sandwiches, Galaxy Tab, Digital life

What’s On is our weekly article on everything we found interesting or just made us laugh in the past few days. For this fifth edition, we have stayed true to our geek side with a comic strip on phone users type and some news on Samsung’s new device the Galaxy Tab.

iPhone VS Android VS Blackberry

You probably have had this happening to you a thousand times, you friend talks about how good his phone is, you reply on the advantages of yours, he continues on the flaws that you haven’t mentionned… and it goes on and on.
Well the guys at C-Section Comics got inspired by that and designed this pretty clever comic strip comparing phone users from different perspective.

15 sandwiches from around the world

Stumble upon this article while reading the tweets of @NatGeoSociety, and we got pretty amazed at all those types of sandwiches that we didn’t know existed.

I could easily have an English Chip Butty right now:

Have a look at all 12 sandwiches on the National Geographic Blog.

Galaxy Tab is coming to Australia

It was announce during the summer and since then we have seen pictures and videos pop around, the Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is coming. We always do our best to have our games ready for any new device that comes out, and this is going to be true for the Galaxy Tab too.

Have a look at 3 of those games:

Jordan’s life

If the first thing you do when you wake up is checking your emails on your phone, if you spend your bus ride playing games, if you tweet while you are walking, or if you have check 3 of your social networks before reading this article, there’s a great chance you’ll relate to this video.

Have a great weekend guys :)
